Always wanted to visit China? Well, you can now get a FREE 5-year visa with multiple entries into the country provided you are of Chinese descent in some way. If not, the regular Chinese visa only allows for a 1-year permit.
The new move, aimed to attract more Chinese foreigners living overseas to visit their families and obviously boost China’s economic development, also affects residence permits, upping the duration from three years to five.
To apply for the new 5-year visa, applicants need to prove their Chinese origin by presenting official documents issued by the Chinese government including passports or identity cards.
There isn’t a limit on the number of generations of the applicant, and only one of their parents or ancestors have to be either a current or former citizen of China.
If you do not have those official documents, certificates issued by the overseas government may also be accepted should the Chinese embassy or consulate approve.
Perhaps now is the time to visit Shanghai Disneyland and the Great Wall of China?
