Looks like Malaysia will soon be updating its record for being home to the tallest buildings in Southeast Asia with a new 106-floor building within the Tun Razak Exchange (TRX). Over 19 months into construction, The Exchange 106 is already at a current height of 450 meters and will continue to surpass the Petronas Twin Towers to reach a height of 492.3 meters.

Slated to completed by June 2018, the super tall structure has sped through an efficient construction process, with two to three days allocated to a floor. Owned and developed by Mulia Property Development Sdn Bhd, the skyscraper continues to break various records as its construction was also recognised as the second largest continuous concrete pour in the world.

The construction of The Exchange 106 kickstarted in May 2016 and according to a statement by the company, “Work processes have sped up since they became more efficient and well-organised. Expected completion of all trades by middle of 2018 to facilitate its opening by third quarter of next year.”

Highlighting English Burl wood high ceilings, lobbies and common areas completed with marble flooring and walls, the developer already teased an elegant design for the interior. Composing of 106 floors and eight basement levels, the building is designed with an open plan interior configuration, with large column-free office floor plates of up to 34,000 sq ft.

Until now, the Petronas Twin Towers holds the 13th spot as the tallest skyscraper in the world as well as the tallest building in the region. Upon the completion of the new building, Malaysia takes over Shanghai’s World Financial Center (492m) to house the world’s 10th tallest building.

Indeed a new achievement unlocked, The Exchange 106 is also said to be topped off with a dazzling glass crown that will be illuminated with LED lights. We can already imagine how spectacular it’s going to look!
