The family, friends and fans of popular K-pop band SHINee were left grieving this evening as lead singer Jonghyun, whose full name is Kim Jong-hyun, has died via suicide in his Seoul apartment located at Cheongdam-dong.
It was reported that he took his own life after sending a heartbreaking message to his sister which read, “It’s been too hard. Please send me off. Tell everyone I’ve had a hard time. This is my last goodbye.”
SM Entertainment has also confirmed the news via a press release which read, “SHINee member Jonghyun has left our side.”
“SM staff members and artists are all in mourning,” the statement continued. “Please refrain from speculative reports. Funeral proceedings will be held as quietly as possible.”
Aged 27, the singer checked into a service residence for two nights and was discovered by police today after his sister contacted the authorities. He attempted to kill himself with the use of carbon monoxide and was taken to the hospital but later died.
K-pop band SHINee first released their debut album The SHINee World in 2008 and Kim went solo in 2015. He also performed two solo concerts in Seoul earlier this month.
Rest in peace..
