As Daisy Ridley meteorically rises to fame, the actress has admitted that she has had to attend therapy to cope with her stardom.
The Star Wars actress boldly revealed after filming wrapped for The Last Jedi that she needed to ‘step away’ from the famous franchise by enlisting the help of a therapist for six months. Speaking to The Telegraph, the British actress confessed: “I have always suffered with anxiety since I was a teenager, I should have done it way before, but I suddenly realised how good it is to talk about this stuff.”
The 25-year-old revealed that the sessions helped her come to terms with how her life was changing after the sci-fi flick was released, subsequently making Daisy a household name overnight. “Going through the whole thing with the same group of people is wonderful, but also occasionally it’s a really good to step away [from the cast and crew of Star Wars] and actually really process what went on, and how I felt in it all.”
Daisy also spoke about her decision to quit social media trolls decided to pick at her size after she posted a snap of herself at the Teen Choice Awards. It was tough, given that Daisy had always been candid about her battle with endometriosis and acne. “After the Teen Choice Awards post] suddenly people were not very nice. I had put on weight after finishing filming, and I thought, why do I have to be slender to have the views I have?”
In a recent interview with the Radio Times, Daisy slammed social media for being damaging to the mental health of teenagers. “I don’t do social anymore. I came off it last September and I will never get back on. The more I read about teenage anxiety, the more I think it’s highly unhealthy for people’s mental health.”
We’re loving Daisy so much for this.
