Wait, what?? Malaysian model, emcee, entrepreneur, actress and powerful influencer Noor Neelofa Mohd Noor has been appointed as AirAsia’s non-executive independent director, in an unexpected turn of events.
The news comes after Aireen Omar resigned as the director of AirAsia, though she will still remain as the chief executive officer of the low-cost carrier.
Neelofa’s appointment was approved by all AirAsia’s board members, and according to group chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, “Her experience as an entrepreneur, a brand creator and an industry disruptor will be invaluable to AirAsia, and she will be able to provide fresh insights into our business as we transform into a digital airline.”
“Neelofa is super smart, young and independent – just what we need to help the company stay ahead as we progress towards becoming one of the best performing, most trusted and respected companies in the world.”
Fernandes added that Neelofa’s successes so far, including being named by Forbes Asia in their 30 Under 30 list and establishing her hijab business empire Naelofar, will always be an inspiration to AirAsia.
On the appointment, Neelofa commented, “This is not only an achievement for me, but for all women out there. For the past 7 years, I had explored both the entertainment and business industries which had presented me with so many opportunities to grow and to transform.”
Well, congratulations! We look forward to witness what she would be able to do for AirAsia.
