Get Ready To Watch Sabrina The Teenage Witch Reboot On Netflix

If you’ve been enjoying Riverdale, get ready for a trip to Greendale as Sabrina the Teenage Witch, that staple of ’90s TV, is officially coming back to the small screen.

Production powerhouse Netflix has given the yet-untitled series a 20-episode, two-season, straight-to-series order and — good news for Archie fans — there will even be a crossover episode with the Riverdale team working to bring Sabrina back to the screen. Yay!

Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will be back to write the pilot, and Lee Toland Krieger, who directed the first episode of the Archie Comics-based TV series, is coming back to helm the first episode of Sabrina.

The name of the series is still up in the air — although it’s officially based on the graphic novel The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina — which sounds like a far cry from the sitcom that starred Melissa Joan Hart. It is described as “tonally in the vein of horror classics like Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist”.

“This dark coming-of-age story deals with horror, the occult and witchcraft and will see Sabrina struggle to reconcile her dual nature of being half-witch and half-mortal while protecting her family and the world from the forces of evil,” Archie Comics said in its announcement.

Netflix confirmed the darker tone with its own tweet about the show.

Sabrina is coming to Netflix and she might just out-brood Jughead. Don't @ me about talking cats (yet)

Considering that the graphic novel mentioned above is also part of the Archie Comics universe, the theory about Betty in Riverdale being related to Sabrina is starting to look like it makes just a bit more sense, right?

Think about it, they have the same green eye colour, they’re all blond, and hair colour is a big indicator of family ties in Riverdale. Perhaps, this could be the reason why Betty’s mom Alice Cooper chose to leave the Southside — she wanted to run away from witchy past.

It also clears up why Sabrina was left out when other Archie Comics characters were always popping up in Riverdale.

Fingers crossed that the original date for the show to be released — sometime during 2018 — doesn’t get pushed back too much further, because we certainly cannot wait any longer!
