Psst! Move over, Gigi Hadid, Bella and Kendall Jenner. We have a new icon in the making.
This morning, we’ve learned that 2017’s breakout model —Kaia Gerber aka Cindy Crawford’s supermodel daughter– has been tapped by Karl Lagerfeld to design a capsule collection for his eponymous label, marking it as the 16-year-old’s first ever fashion series which is set to debut this fall.
While an official release says the clothes and accessories will blend Karl Lagerfeld’s ‘timeless Parisian chic aesthetic’ with Kaia Gerber’s ‘LA inspirations and confident, original vision’, her own wardrobe holds a few more tangible clues.
Loosely based on the model-off-duty uniform of jeans and leather jackets, Kaia Gerber’s personal style is rooted in five things: crop tops, statement trousers, newsboy caps, vintage jeans, and lots of black leather.
Since her catwalk “coming out” in September for Calvin Klein, Kaia has dominated the runway and modelled for major labels ranging from Versace to Chanel, dramatically overshadowing Kendall Jenner and Gigi and Bella Hadid, who has ruled on the runway in recent years.
For last season, at least, she effectively eclipsed her older — and much more followed — peers. Heck, even Kendall is a little insecure of Kaia Gerber, saying: “Listen, we’re all trying to get all our work in now before she hits the scene. When that happens, we’ll all go broke!”

The Karl Lagerfeld x Kaia Collection will launch globally in Karl Lagerfeld stores, online as well as with select wholesale partners.
