A wry, humane coming-of-age comedy Lady Bird – the solo directorial debut of actress Greta Gerwig – is no longer merely “well-regarded” or “critically acclaimed” — it is, officially, THE BEST REVIEWED FILM OF ALL TIME.
Lady Bird’s unvarnished, un-glamourised high-school drama has the quirky humour one never knew they wanted in a movie. Ultimately, it’s a mother-daughter love story, replete with the tribulations of painful individuation.
Kudos to actress-turned-director Greta Grewig, for making the teen flick in such a simple essence and yet still feels distinctive, and perhaps even original.
The story of a teenage girl named Christine who insists on being called “Lady Bird”, is a constant little battle between her ego and her sentimentality. She clearly has a heart. She sometimes forgets to use it, because she’s young and trying to be cool, independent, and wise beyond her years.
According to trusted movie review site Rotten Tomatoes, Lady Bird is now the highest-reviewed film in the website’s history, with a 100% rating averaged from 182 Fresh reviews, and 0% negative feedback.
This means that Greta Grewig’s perfect rendition of manic effervescent free spirit of a teenager has just scored a major internet honour, stealing the noteworthy spot from 1999’s Toy Story 2 which originally made the record with 163 Fresh reviews.
Like many attention seekers, Lady Bird has a quieter best friend and foil, Julie (played Beanie Feldstein), whose silent reactions are often the best parts of their scenes.
We’d like to note that Beanie Feldstein is Jonah Hill’s little sister and the comedian recently revealed that he is obsessed with the movie too. Aww, we are over the moon for this sibling love!
