Jennifer Lopez has always remained as one of those superhumans who never fail to look bomb, even without makeup. Faultless facial features and amazing genes aside, the pop star’s flawless, glowing skin always seems ageless and unblemished.. and her enviable complexion can be attributed to celebrity makeup artist – Mary Phillips.
The much-adored celebrity MUA has worked with A-class celebrities like Hailee Steinfield, Chrissy Teigen and the Kardashian-Jenner sisters, and in an interview, Mary generously revealed her secrets to making sure her star-studded clients look good, whether on the red carpet, on-screen or at events for that matter.
“Nutrition is number one for skin, at least in my book, before anything else,” she emphasised, urging everyone to get sufficient sleep and water. More importantly, the celebrity MUA tipped that taking vitamins can be a major help in getting a glowing complexion.
Flawless skin starts with a proper routine. After all, a good base makes the whole process smoother. According to the makeup guru, the steps are easy; you just have to stick through with it. Always cleanse, and follow up after. The right way would be to start with items with thinnest texture and work your way up, layering from essence to serum, then eye cream and moisturizer.
As for those who have distressed and irritated skin, Mary’s advice for you would be to “run, don’t walk, to a dermatologist.” When prepping for big functions or special occasions, pamper your skin with a good exfoliating scrub and apply masks for the face and eyes. Also, make sure to allocate extra time for manually massaging the skin.
For makeup, Mary shared some of the must-haves in her makeup kit which includes products from brands like BECCA, Kryolan, Ben Nye, Tom Ford, Kevyn Aucoin, Shiseido, Clé de Peau, Koh Gen Do, AmorePacific, Dr. Perricone MD and La Mer. Those listed have obviously gotten the green light from her, “For real, I am obsessed with all their products. These are all my tried and true, and are all in my kit!”
The tip to applying a flawless base according to Mary is to fully blend all liquid makeup and immediately pat on powder to set it. However, this doesn’t mean that you should go about your day without touch ups as you’ll still have to check back every once in a while.
With Mary, the number one rule for makeup also applies, “Less is more with all makeup. You never want to go too heavy with anything, because once it’s on there, it’s hard and timing consuming to go back.”
It may seem complex, but it really isn’t, and Mary concluded, “It’s not about a magic product or the stunning beauty of a person that makes makeup stay longer, last longer or look better. It’s the skincare and health conscious choices of that person.”
True that, Mary!
