It’s official- Beyonce is set to voice Nala is Disney and Jon Favreau’s The Lion King!
Beyonce confirmed the news on her Facebook page just a couple of hours ago with a post that unveiled the rest of the voice cast. Earlier this year, news outlets reported that Beyonce received an offer for the role, but it looks like the deal is finally sealed!
The star-studded voice cast includes Donald Glover as Simba, James Earl Jones as Mufasa (he played Mufasa in the 1994 original, too!), Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Alfre Woodard as Simba’s mother Sarabi, John Oliver as Zazu, John Kani as Rafiki, Florence Kasumba as Shenzi, Eric André as Azizi, and Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen as Timon and Pumbaa. JD McCrary and Shahadi Wright Joseph will play young Simba and young Nala, respectively.
Favreau who directed The Jungle Book for the studio, expressed his excitement over directing the live-action remake of the 1994 classic in a statement; “It is a director’s dream to assemble a talented team like this to bring this classic story to life.”
The Lion King is set to hit theaters on July 19, 2019. If you’re as excited as we are for the live-action remake of The Lion King, here’s a little throwback track from the 1994 original to soothe those antsy nerves.
