It has been two months since the star-studded closing ceremony of the Kuala Lumpur Southeast Asian Games 2017 (KL2017) ended. Unfortunately, we got word that several local artistes, dancers and volunteers are yet to be paid for their stellar performances.
Veteran pop singer Zainal Abidin revealed that he felt neglected by organisers of #KL2017 and although he did not rely on income from a single source, artistes should be compensated for their hard work.
Sedih dengar keluhan kawan2 yg perform kat Closing Sea Games masih belum dapat bayaran.
Alasan: sibuk dgn #Bajet2018 .
Segerakanlah.

The issue first came to light when singer-actress Adibah Noor posted about it on Twitter. Writing in Malay, she expressed sadness that “friends performing at the SEA Games closing ceremony had yet to receive payment”.
Her tweet immediately gained attention from the netizens, who are all frustrated about not getting paid for their hard work during the event. FYI: Most of these volunteers had to be at the stadium by 6:30 AM and leave at 10 PM or later — which takes a lot of dedication.
Seems that i've opened a can of worms.
Ramai yg belum dibayar rupa2nya. #SeaGames2017#MintakPaymentBukanMintakSedekah#ServicesRendered pic.twitter.com/NtPj5ac7Il— ADIBAH NOOR 🇲🇾😼 (@adibahnoor) October 29, 2017

Kesian nya, upah ataupun bayaran sepatutnya dibayar sebelum peluh kering di badan

The Malaysian SEA Games organising committee (Masoc) told that the company in charge of payroll had been appointed through a tender by the Youth and Sports Ministry. “So, whether an artiste has been paid or not, that is the company’s business. The artistes involved should refer to them, and not blame the government.”
“As of now, Masoc has paid out on more than 50 per cent of the contracts for the opening and closing ceremonies on behalf of the government,” the officer added.

One Twitter user, voiced out his concern about not having a proper agreement with the management. While another user claimed that this is pretty ironic (and typical of them if you ask us).

Besides Zainal, other celebrities who performed at the closing ceremony included Ella, Amy Search and David Arumugam of Alleycats. On the other hand, celebrity host Aznil Nawawi has been paid in full.
Thankfully, the Secretary General of Ministry of Youth and Sports caught wind of the news and didn’t take long to solve this issue.

Well, well. Let’s hope everyone will get paid soon. We’re pretty sure that these acts and volunteers joined #KL2017 to be a part of history, make Malaysia proud as well as to make some dough.
So.. give them their money y’all!
