We’re always on the lookout for new beauty secrets and hacks, but this one woman attributed her glowing skin to urine and we’re pretty damn intrigued. Yeap, actual pee.
70-year-old Stella Ralfini told The Sun that she discovered the benefits of urine nearly 40 years ago in India, and after a rash on her skin completely disappeared after she applied urine to the area, she was hooked.
On top of her basic skincare regime (cleansing, toning and moisturising), Ralfini applies urine onto her skin like an additional toner as she believes it promotes a healthy, smooth complexion.
She explains, “People think of urine as something dirty, but it’s not. It is your own DNA, and that’s what makes it so powerful…You can use it to treat eczema, psoriasis, rashes, outbreaks, or anything to do with the skin.”
Surprisingly, dermatologist and cosmetic surgeon Purvisha Patel has supported Ralfini’s claims on urine, saying, “Urine contains urea and uric acid, which is an exfoliant.”
“[The] use of an exfoliant on a daily basis tricks the skin into thinking it’s wounded and boosts collagen production. This is true of most topical skin-care products that contain salicylic, glycolic, and fruit acids.”
It really is untraditional and great if it really does work, but ugh, we’ll probably be sticking with our regular serums and moisturisers..
