I’ll be honest with you – I’m ever only used to driving my 10 year old hatchback. But I do enjoy the occasional whizzing through the open road in a much larger and sturdier vehicle. Which is why when Nasim Sdn. Bhd. (the official distributor and custodian for the Peugeot brand in Malaysia) launched the All-New Peugeot 3008 SUV, I jumped at the very chance of driving 2017’s European Car Of The Year through the steep hills towards Taiping.
As compared to the old 3008, the new 3008 SUV’s actually looks like an SUV at 4,447 mm long and 1,841mm wide. It also looks divine on the road with an elegant and refined style that is complimented by an Advanced Full LED Technology with a sequential scrolling indicator and a sleek new rear claw taillight.
The new 3008 SUV has got more character, and the chrome ups the car’s style game by a few notches – the front face has been redesigned with a stylish new chequered wide grille with chrome plated trims and fog lamps emerging from the bodywork, and it rides on 18-inch Los Angeles Shiny Haria Grey alloy rims.
Under the hood, the all-new 3008 SUV comes equipped with a 1.6 THP with Variable Valve Timing that produces 167ps and 240 Nm of torque, making it one of the most powerful SUVs in its segment. The new 3008 SUV is also fitted with a 6-speed automatic gear control with Tiptronic and a sport mode functionality for an exhilarating drive. It also has a fuel efficiency of 7.0 litres per 100 km and has a top speed of 211km/h, making it one of the best in its class.
Because of its chic style, spaciousness and the revolutionary Peugeot i-Cockpit, the new Peugeot 3008 SUV was awarded the ‘European Car of the Year 2017’ at the Geneva Motor Show 2017. The car also bagged the Grand Prix award for’ Best Interior Design of 2016’ at the 32nd International Automotive Festival. And its not hard to see why – the interior is covered in fabric, premium luxury leather and chrome for a glamorous feel.
The passenger compartment of the all-new Peugeot 3008 SUV is also quite a sight. Featuring the latest generation Peugeot i-Cockpit, Peugeot cleverly incorporates the use of fabric on the dashboard and door panels. The i-Cockpit dashboard features a compact steering wheel, a 12.3-inch digital Head-Up Display screen that displays speedometer, odometer, trip-computer, and other displays. The all-digital display is placed high, slightly facing the driver for easier visibility.
Besides the vast developments in the i-Cockpit, the new 3008 SUV also comes with a set of technological advances for improved safety. Peugeot’s well-known Park Assist is also incorporated within the new 3008, making parking the vehicle way easier.
These features also comes with 6 safety airbags, Hill Start Assist, Electronic Safety Program, Anti-Lock Braking System, Electronic Brake Distribution, Emergency Brake Assist, Anti-Skid Regulation and Dynamic Stability Control to improve your grip and handle on the new 3008 SUV through difficult driving conditions.
The Hill Assist Descent Control together with the Advanced Grip Control and the 180° reverse camera are the first in its class for the All-New Peugeot 3008 SU. The new Hill Assist Descent Control (HADC) within the new 3008 SUV that provides security for drivers when descending on steep slopes – apt for taking through the North-South Expressway. The HADC together with the Advanced Grip Control really did its job of reducing the rick of the vehicle slipping when we were travelling downhill in both forward and reverse gears.
Other features of the vehicle’s passenger compartment also includes USB and Bluetooth connectivity, the super cool Apple Carplay and Android Auto that lets you play your favourite playlists on Spotify, auto electric parking brake, automatic dual zone air-conditioning and a banging six-speaker with 3D Arkamys sound staging system.
The passenger compartment also comes with premium luxury leather seats, driver seat lumbar and height adjustment and a flexible 8-way electric driver seat with memory settings. The ergonomic high-seating position also gives you a secure feel by increasing the visibility of the open road.
Just in case you’re packing more than a couple of suitcases for a road trip, the large 590-litre boot size can be widened by folding the rear seats, increasing the total storage volume to 1670 litres of flat fold space. The spacious 590-litre boot size can be further enlarged with the split folding rear seats with ‘Magic Flat’ functionality. With the rear seats folded, the total storage volume is increased to 1,670 litres of flat fold space.
All in all, I definitely loved my drive through the steep slopes on the roads up north with the all-new Peugeot 3008 SUV. If you’re looking to purchase an SUV anytime soon, here’s an SUV you should definitely consider.
Available in five exciting colours – Metallic Copper, Magnetic Blue, Amazonite Grey, Ultimate Red and Pearl White, the All-New 3008 SUV is currently on display in showrooms nationwide.
