“Fetish” singer Selena Gomez has just unveiled in a shocking Instagram post that she had a kidney transplant, which she required because of her battle with lupus. That happened during summer when she was laying low, and now we all know exactly why.
The 25-year-old actress got the new organ from one of her best friends, also The Secret Life of the American Teenager alum, Francia Raisa. She has always been open about struggling with lupus over the past few years, but this summer it got so bad that she had to have the transplant done.
The heartbreaking Instagram post shows Selena laying on a hospital bed with tubes stuck into her hands, and Francia, who also posted a heartfelt message on Instagram, was laying on another bed. The two held hands side by side.

She didn’t state when she had the procedure done, or how long she took to recover in hospital, but we cannot imagine the trauma she’s been through and are incredibly inspired by her strength. You go, girl.
