Stars they sparkle and shine even more so when they hit the all glamorous Broadway but did we hear this correctly, Twilight the musical? Yes ladies, we know you’re either squirming in your seats or rubbing your hands together in glee (pun intended) because the world’s most popular, hottest and sparkliest vampire will now shine onstage, this time , in perfect harmony.
Unfortunately, if you think it’s going to be like Wicked, which runs almost forever, it’s not because it’s a one-night only staged reading happening on the 16th of January with proceeds going to a charity called Blessings in a Backpack.
It’s expected to follow in the footsteps of “A Very Potter Musical”, a satirical take on the books, so Twilight fans, don’t take this seriously.
And while it may not feature Robert Pattinson or Kristen Stewart, “Twilight: The Musical” does boast a bunch of Broadway stars and performers from top shows like “The Book of Mormon,” “Wicked and West Side Story,” with “Next to Normal’s” Meghann Fahy set to take the lead role of Bella Swan.
According to the press release, the musical will “examine our culture of obsession through the story of teenage outsider Bella Swan who risks everything when she embarks on a star-crossed romance with Vampire Edward Cullen”. Song titles include: “Life Sucks When Your Boyfriend Is A Vampire”, “Death Never Sounded So Good”, and “I Imprinted on an Infant.”
Entertainment Weekly points out that some of the character names include Harry Potter and Hermione Granger which, EW speculates, could lead to “that epic vampire vs. wizard war that we all know is coming.”
It’ll be interesting to see how this Vampire-Werewolf musical unfolds, you never know it may end up so good that it’ll spark off nationwide tours. Whether you’re a fan or not, we’re sure you’re dead curious to find out how this goes.
The two-hour show goes for $51.50 for normal seating and $76.50 for premium seats. Unfortunately for most of us outside New York, we’ll have to resort to blurry, sneakily shot YouTube videos of the performance.
