When it comes to skincare, Eastern beauty gurus have always been 10 steps ahead than our neighbours from the West. And being Asian ourselves, it’s a well-known fact that we take our skin health very seriously as choosing the right products will benefit us in the long run.
And, since we have so many various brands out there in the market, how can we distinguish the superior ones? Everyone’s skin behaves differently, and we reckon there is no other way to tell other than to try it out for ourselves, just as I recently have with DR. WU Skincare from Taiwan.
I initially felt quite skeptical as I had never heard of DR. WU prior to this experience. With that said, a quick research shows that Dr. Wu, who started his eponymous brand, is an actual dermatologist championing laser treatments and cosmetic surgery within Asia.
I was gifted a set of DR. WU’s Hyalucomplex Hydrating System which features hyaluronic acid as its main ingredient in the form of HyaluComplex. Targeted for sensitive and dehydrated skin, HyaluComplex exhibits high water-binding properties, helping to reduce dryness on the skin and lock in moisture.
Step 1 – DR. WU Hydrating Gel Cleanser with Hyaluronic Acid
Let’s begin with the basic step – cleansing. Odourless, lightweight and easily absorbed, this cleanser has left me super pleased. It leaves my skin feeling clean without stripping away the skin’s moisture. Some cleansers leave my sensitive skin blotchy and irritated, and thankfully, this cleanser did not do that.
Step 2 – DR. WU Intensive Hydrating Toner with Hyaluronic Acid
This viscous toner feels sticky on the skin instantly upon application, but the quick absorbency unequivocally compensates for it. I never enjoyed using toners as I didn’t see the importance, but I do now as this toner leaves my skin more radiant after each use. With that said, it’s difficult to dispense the product and I really wish it had a pump.
Step 3 – DR. WU Extra Hydrating Gel with Hyaluronic Acid
Meanwhile, the Extra Hydrating Gel transforms into droplets of water when it touches the skin. It’s quite hydrating and this feeling lasts me the entire day without the skin feeling tight. It also helps my makeup apply much smoother, and as a result, my work of art lasts far longer without budging.
So what’s the verdict?
It’s been two months of using DR. WU’s HyaluComplex Hydrating System, and none of the products have broken me out thus far. My skin surely looks more plump, naturally dewy and radiantly healthy now even without makeup on, and I can vouch that these dry skin saviours aren’t too rich, even for sensitive skin. Flaky skin, be gone!
The products from DR. WU‘s HyaluComplex Hydrating System is priced between RM109 and RM249, avail at Watsons and the brand’s official website.
