The 37th People’s Choice Awards: Vote for Pop Culture!

As we ring in the new year, we should also be expecting an influx of notable award shows. One of which will take place in exactly a week!

The People’s Choice Awards is an American awards show that rewards accolades to mostly mainstream talents and their work. Held annually since 1975, the entire show is based on votes by the general public. So you can’t blame anything on favouritism or, ahem, injustice.

Last year, the 36th annual People’s Choice Awards took place at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. The big winner was, as expected, “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” which took home four big ones including “Favourite Movie”, “Favourite Drama Movie”, “Favourite Movie Actress” (Kristen Stewart), and “Favourite On-Screen Team” (Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner).

Other big winners include Eminem with a total of four awards, Rihanna with three, and the quirky Katy Perry with two awards.

Now, returning once again this year and pitted against a fresh new round of nominees is Robert Pattinson from the “Twilight Saga” for “Favourite Movie Actor”, where he’ll come face to face with contenders such as Daniel Radcliffe, Hugh Jackman, Johnny Depp, and Ryan Reynolds.

Whereas his “Twilight Saga” co-star Taylor Lautner, is one of the nominees in the running for the “Favourite Action Movie Star” award alongside Hugh Jackman, Vin Diesel, Ryan Reynolds, and Shia LaBeouf.

On the musical side of things, 24-year-old Adele, who is still fresh out of her surgery and champion of six nominations for the upcoming 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards®, will be facing fierce competition from fellow female artist peers such as Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, and Lady Gaga for the “Favourite Female Artist” award.

Who’s running the “award race” for the “Favourite Song of the Year”, you ask?

Well, that.

“Moves Like Jagger” by Maroon 5 (Adam Levine!) featuring Christina Aguilera will be vocal-fighting with “The Edge of Glory” by Lady Gaga, “Party Rock Anthem” by LMFAO feauring Lauren Bennet and GoonRock, and “Rolling in the Deep” by Adele.

Go here for the complete list of nominees. Phew. Who will go home with what? It already sounds like a great entertainment showdown is scheduled to take place next Wednesday, 11th of January 2012 at Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

That’s in exactly a week and we can’t wait! Keep up with us if you would like to see coverage of the 37th People’s Choice Awards. And keep your fingers crossed for your personal favourites!
