Didn’t get enough sleep? Put on a sheet mask. Skin looking dehydrated? Try a sheet mask. Relationship trouble? Sheet mask ’em, babe. It’s the answer to all of our problems and the product that gives us instant gratification (and by instant, we mean in 15–20 minutes).
Since we love these slimy masks so much, we wondered if there was any way we could get more out of them – Hey we’re not stingy, just looking for ways to get maximum benefit from the products that we purchased.
And after browsing through a thread on reddit, turns out that you can make your sheet mask perform even better than it does on its own. According to one Reddit user, when heated with lukewarm water before application, the warm sheet mask “opens up the pores and allows more of the serum to get in.”
Apparently, “warming” skin-care products aren’t all that new in Korea. Of course not, since K-beauty is always one step ahead of the beauty trends.
But do they? According to an expert – Yes, actually. “Warm water and steam soften the outer skin layer and dilate blood vessels to enhance delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the skin. Applying a cosmetic product or mask to a warm face generally may help enhance penetration of the active ingredient into the skin.”
A-ha, it’ll be like a mini spa sesh at home! But remember, it’s not recommended to expose your skin-care products or masks to extremes in temperature — either hot or cold — unless it is instructed directly from the manufacturer. It could affect the formulation of the product and potentially make the active ingredients unstable.
