We hate it when celebrity marriages collapse and 2011 has been a tumultuous year for us fans. For some reason, we believe that when a celebrity couple goes through a divorce, somehow, somewhere, an angel falls to its death. Well, except for Kim Kardashian’s.
While we’re appalled that some celebs treat the sanctity of marriage so lightly, here’s another couple who has joined the list.
On the 30th of December, Russell Brand filed for divorce from Katy. He said in his statement: ‘Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends.’ His legal team filed court documents at the Superior Court in Los Angeles yesterday citing ‘irreconcilable differences.’
Katy and Russell spent Christmas 7,000 miles apart with Katy prancing around in the Hawaiian sun and Russel in chilly London and were both caught on camera not wearing their wedding rings, sparking rumours that a divorce was underway. Unfortunately, it was true.
The couple initially had plans to spend their Christmas in London but eventually saw Katy jetting off to Hawaii to spend the holiday with her friends instead. It has also been said that Brand didn’t approve of her partying lifestyle and new claims suggest that he told her to ‘tone it down’.
The couple met in 2009 and got married within four months and is estimated to have only spent less than two months together in the 14 months they were together thanks to their hectic schedules.
We can’t say we weren’t surprised with this news but it only goes to show that marriage isn’t the easiest thing in the world and sometimes love alone isn’t enough. We can’t imagine what the both of them are going through but we wish the both of the them the very best.
