Beauty Breakup: A Crash Course On Expiry Dates For Makeup, Skincare & Body Stuff

Your makeup and other beauty products don’t last forever, and if you didn’t know that already, it’s high time you do a major beauty stash detox. Products that have gone bad don’t only perform poorly; whatever that is applied onto the skin gets absorbed into the body and the result can be similar to that of consuming gone-off food.

Some products come with manufacturing dates and expiry dates that are printed clearly as an easy indication to its shelf-life, taking into consideration the date the product was first opened, its ingredients, the way it is being stored and the kind of packaging. But, just in case the dates aren’t present, the Period After Opening (PAO) symbol is what you need to look out for.

The PAO symbol acts as a guideline to when you should toss a product into the bin after you’ve opened it. ‘M’ signifies month, and the number or numbers before that implies the amount of months the product can be realistically kept for usage after opening.

Watch the video above to learn more about product expiration dates, and some tell-tale signs that the product should be binned immediately!
