Brought to you by visionary South Korean film director and screenwriter Bong Joon Ho, Netflix’s upcoming original film Okja will its world premiere at the 70th Cannes Film Festival, but through the newly released trailer, we are now getting the first full look at Okja, the massive heartwarming animal that takes centrestage in the movie.
Okja, a Plan B Entertainment, Lewis Pictures and Kate Street Picture Company production in association with Netflix, showcases a star studded cast including Tilda Swinton, Byun Heebong, Paul Dano, Lily Collins, Jake Gyllenhaal, Giancarlo, as well as An Seo Hyun as Mija, Okja’s caretaker.
For 10 years, Mija has been a constant companion to Okja in the South Korean mountains, but everything changes once conglomerate Mirando Corporation transports Okja to New York with other plans in mind. Mija sets out on a rescue mission, though it gets increasingly complicated by capitalists, demonstrators and consumers who are battling to control Okja’s fate.
Fusing humour, poignancy and drama, director Bong, who was behind Snowpiercer and The Host, shapes the meat-is-murder film with a distinct cinematic vision that addresses the animal inside us all. Okja will premiere exclusively on Netflix globally on 28 June 2017.
