Instagram users are willing to go great lengths to have their videos and photos become viral these days, and though we’ve seen the more extreme like terrarium eye makeup and marble lips, there’s something new that’s actually more realistically achievable, even without any makeup skills..

The rainbow light filter that’s been dominating the Explore page on Instagram lately is one of the prettiest things we’ve seen, but no, it’s not an actual filter. What it is though is science – utilising the refraction of light to create technicolored streaks of light for photos and selfies.
There are many YouTube tutorials out there demonstrating ways you can achieve this rainbow coloured effect (like with a mirror and a basin of water as shown by TheSorryGirls above), but the most effective and hassle-free method we’ve seen is through the use of the holographic surface on the back of a CD.
Would you give it a shot? 😉
