If you appreciate the “less is more” aesthetic, chances are you’re slightly obsessed with Muji. To be frank, aren’t we all? We’d find any excuse to step in for a browse around even though there’s clearly nothing we really need, and often times, even yearn to one day have our own clean-looking Muji inspired home.

Well, the Japanese home-goods brand is making that dream of minimalist-minded people come true (in Japan at least) with its new tiny huts that give a whole new meaning to basic living. Measuring only 10 sqm, the compact shed can comfortably sit four people, with plenty of sunlight coming in from the big sliding door and windows.

“It’s not as dramatic as owning a house or a vacation home, but it’s not as basic as going on a trip,” explains Muji. “Put it in the mountains, near the ocean, or in a garden, and it immediately blends in with the surroundings, inviting you to a whole new life. This was the vision behind our radically new Muji hut concept.”

Through the traditional Japanese shipbuilding method, the hut has exterior walls made of burnt cedar wood enhanced with burned hardwood cladding for durability, whereas the raft foundation below the hut protects it from ground moisture. Inside, the inner walls made from structural plywood are left untreated to allow room for customisation.

Want one? The ¥3,000,000 price tag includes the construction costs so you won’t need to get your hands dirty, but is also subject to other legal expenses and the conditions of the construction site. There is also a five-year warranty thrown in for the building frame, and for the whole hut, a one-year warranty.

The Muji Huts are slated to go on sale in autumn 2017 in Japan, and retail for ¥3,000,000 each (approx. RM117, 342.58).
