Footing through the after party

So you’ve spent the long weekend partying away looking all glam in your tight sequinned dress and sky high heels with Facebook pictures to immortalize your epic night but twas the day after Christmas and not a soul was stirring, you tiptoe across the floor to look for some crackers but boy does your feet hurt!

You’re probably telling yourself, “no more heels, ever!” but we can’t help to choose them every time we open the shoe closet and see them beckoning out to us.

While we can’t stop you from donning heels, we can hopefully, share with you some soothing secrets of ours!

Soak your feet in a warm foot bath to help soothe away the aches and pains. You can also add some aromatherapic oil such as peppermint or lavender to cool things down further as well as olive oil for its moisturizing purposes.

Prevention is always better than cure so keep your ankles and leg muscles strong by taking a few minutes off your day for some ankle-friendly exercises like tiptoe walking, heel walks and balance exercise.

Wear thin socks underneath if you’re wearing pumps or Mary Janes to prevent your feet from rubbing against the leather or on the material of the shoes and wear shoes with soft inner soles.

This is common logic yet some women buy shoes that are too tight or too big simply because it’s the last pair and they must have them. Good designs will always be around so put those shoes back on the shelf and search again. Make sure that you get high heels that fit.

The number one reason that people feel pain or get blisters or abrasions from their high heels is that they have shoes that aren’t the right size. Measure your feet. Make sure your shoes aren’t too big or too small. If they aren’t the right size, it doesn’t matter how cute they are.

Go for a foot massage or pedicure or both! Massages will help with muscle soreness, fatigue as well as the well being of your entire system.

Corns and calluses can develop as a result of wearing shoes that are two sizes too small but never ever try to snip them off yourself as they can cause sores and infections. The same goes for those drugstore corn removers because the acid content in these products may eat into your flesh because they don’t know when to stop working so consult a doctor or specialist if you can.

Well after the new year this coming weekend, we strongly urge you to put away those heels and platforms for some good ol’ flip flops instead to allow your feet to recuperate from all that party stress!
