The annual Digital Camera, Imaging and Media Show or more popularly known as DCIM, opened its doors to public at 10am sharp this morning and the crowd has been trickling in slowly but gradually. We reckon there will be a larger turnout when the Velocity Angels finalists take the stage later this evening but we managed to pop by earlier this morning to be greeted by big brands such as Canon, Olympus, Nikon, Fujifilm and Panasonic.
Brands really lived up to the Christmas spirit and decked their booths with Christmas themed props, plastic fir trees and even made their enthusiastic promoters wear those chilli red Santa hats. If you think that it’s all cameras at this Christmas-themed affair, you couldn’t be more wrong.
Down at the Nikon booth was a wall full of colorful soft toy sure to catch the eye of any passer-by.
If you’re into a less conventional branch of photography, try the Fujifilm Instax cameras for some instantaneous action!
Pick up an additional accessory or two for your camera from Flycams to memory cards to lens filters or even an Elinchrom lighting set if your wallet permits from vendors such as Sandisk, Key Color, Drobo, Engton, Kingston and Pixus. Too bad there’s no such thing as a “Christmas angpow”.
For Canon and Nikon users, you can sign up for workshops with your own respective brands and for Canon users, here’s a little treat for you! Get a free cleaning for your camera’s sensor for a limited time only and by limited, we mean throughout this DCIM 2011 weekend only and this alone should be more than enough reason for all of you to get down here!
You don’t only get good deals at DCIM shows but you also take home something much more valueable: knowledge, that comes in the form of the many seminars and talks scheduled throughout the weekend starting today. Full schedule here at DCIM Show’s website.
We managed to sit through a talk by wedding photographer, Grace Tan of Stories.my and it was very insightful to say the least! If you’re keen on improving your skills as a photographer in the business, don’t forget to drop by for the other equally inspiring seminars.
Once you’re done stuffing your bags with all the goodies, wander around and check out the photo exhibits by popular local photographers from sports to floral, underwater to portraiture and see what it takes to be a pro.
If you’re always lusted for one of these telezooms, get yourself up close and personal with them to see if they’re really worth the hefty price tag. Well, good things don’t come cheap.
Later in the day, experience the launch of Malaysia’s latest Bahasa Malaysia photography magazine, Dunia Kamera which will be made available at newsstands come January 2012. And that sums up our coverage of the first day at the DCIM 2011 show and we can’t wait for what’s in store come the next two days leading up to Christmas! Stick with us and we’ll walk you through this unconventional picturesque winter wonderland!
