Recently, Beauty and the Beast actress Emma Watson revealed that she takes baths every single day without fail. As she mentions, “Nothing terrible is going to happen in the bath, so I always find time for that. I’ll take phone conversations in the bath, anything.”
We agree. Taking a bath is amazing as it helps calm our mind, relaxes our body, and nothing bad is to happen when we are at it. Need more convincing to hop into one this evening? Researchers have found that taking a bath burns just as much calories as compared to a run.
Dr. Steve Faulkner from Loughborough University suggests that taking a bath has similar benefits to exercising, including preventing type 2 diabetes as this passive heating can improve overall health by reducing chronic inflammation, often present in long-term diseases.
Dr. Faulkner and team investigated the effect of a hot bath on blood sugar levels and the amount of calories burned. The study had 14 people enjoy an hour-long soak in a bath at 104 degrees Fahrenheit, then heading out on a bike ride for an hour.
The tests were meant to raise the core body temperature by just one degree to enable the team to measure the number of calories burned per session. Biking burned more calories, but a hot bath consumed just as many calories as a 30-minute walk.
So what are you waiting for? Whip out your bath bombs today!
