Admit it; most of you don’t really pay attention when taking care of your teeth. You brush absentmindedly, holding your brushes haphazardly with one hand as you attempt to multitask, resorting to you brushing vigorously in weird angles, all while thinking of what to do after.. or wondering when exactly did that zit pop up.
Dental hygiene is often overlooked, but treating it as an afterthought may eventually lead to a stunted social life and worse, serious health risks. Fortunately, it’s not difficult to slay your dental care game when you have the right tools (and the right bristles).
In conjunction with World Oral Health Day this week, we’ve put together a list of some of our top dental care picks:
1. Philips Sonicare AirFloss Ultra
Sticking to a consistent flossing routine can be a struggle.. until now. Tbh, we haven’t heard of an ‘electric flosser’ before, but as soon as we stumbled upon Philips Sonicare AirFloss Ultra, we knew that we’ve finally found the answer to perfect, healthy gums!
The unique interdental cleaner is able to reach places your toothbrush can’t, minus struggling with shredded floss thread stuck in between your teeth. Simply place the AirFloss tip between two teeth along the gum line and voila, your gum is as clean as ever, hassle-free.
Philips Sonicare Airfloss Ultra retails for RM755 at leading distributor stores and Philips Brand stores.
2. Foreo ISSA Sonic Electric Toothbrush
The skincare brand that has been made famous for its ground-breaking facial cleansing brush, Foreo, has also designed the most revolutionary electric toothbrush we have ever seen, the ISSA Sonic Electric Toothbrush, making other devices on the market look so 2,000 and late.
If your gums are sensitive, brushing with this futuristic device is certainly better than using regular toothbrushes. However, due to the silicone brush, it can be tough to reach troublesome spots like between the teeth and along the gum line. It does make a good gum massager, though.
The Foreo ISSA Sonic Electric Toothbrush can be purchased via Sephora.my for RM827.
If you haven’t heard of Marvis, you need to check it out ASAP. Turn your boring daily teeth cleaning ritual into a wonderful sensory experience with this luxurious minty toothpaste. According to the brand’s website, “Marvis is a stunning pleasure, a sensation of permanent wellbeing, an unbeatable smile.” We want one in every flavour!
Marvis toothpaste is available at all KENSapothecary stores nationwide and online for RM35 per tube.
4. Japan Propolinse Natural Oral Mouthwash
This natural mouthwash, which contains tea extracts, propolis extracts and natural xylitol, may look like any other normal mouthwash, but gargle it for 30 seconds and you’ll be surprised at the grime that gets spit out. Not sure how this sorcery works, but the flavoured mouthwash offers a good half day of freshness, and may brighten teeth with longer use. When compared to alcohol-based mouthwashes, our editor attests that the difference is crazy (good).
One bottle of Propolinse Natural Oral Mouthwash is priced at RM70 on 11street.my.
We’ve been looking for a good tongue scraper, and we’ve finally found one. The OraBrush is a uniquely designed tool with ultra soft bristles to deeply clean your tongue and the built-in scraper on top helps to collect all the gunk. While some opt to use toothbrushes to clean the tongue, know that it’s not necessarily efficient.
Priced at RM17 each, you can purchase the Orabrush tongue cleaner at Watsons.
6. Philips Sonic Care Toothbrush HealthyWhite+
This is without a doubt the best battery-operated toothbrush available. The device is compact, is of excellent quality and most importantly, does the job of cleaning teeth brilliantly. Thanks to its sonic technology, HealthyWhite+ is specially designed to whiten teeth up to two shades lighter and effortlessly remove stains, especially in hard-to-reach areas.
Although we can’t yet vouch for teeth whitening as we haven’t used it long enough, our smile does seem to appear brighter after three weeks. The toothbrush allows you to mix and match between two modes, and we prefer the Clean mode to brush the teeth, and the White mode for a mirror-polish finish.
On top of the three intensity settings, Philips Sonicare Toothbrush HealthyWhite+ also features a 2-minute timer to help ensure you don’t go overboard with the brushing, as well as a 30-second interval timer that indicates when you have completed each quadrant of your mouth and signals for you to move on.
We seem to be loving the toothbrush, and our teeth have never felt this pristine. Its DiamondClean brush and Sonic cleansing action has proven to be effective on our irregular teeth, which were a pain to care for previously, due to inappropriate bristles that weren’t as suitable.
Philips Sonicare Toothbrush HealthyWhite+ retails for RM439 at leading distributor stores and Philips Brand stores.
