Game of Thrones has a rich history of musical guest stars and this season, the creators landed someone a bit more starry than the others. British music megastar, Ed Sheeran, will appear in a guest star spot for the upcoming seventh season, marking it as the biggest name to appear on the show yet.
The HBO showrunners, David Benioff and Dan Weiss said they had tried for years to land Sheeran as a surprise for Maisie Williams who is a huge fan. “For years we were trying to get Ed Sheeran on the show to surprise Maisie and this year we finally did it.”

“A lot of music artists say they would they would like to be on the show, but shooting a scene is so boring,” Weiss said. “You’re gonna hate this, you’re going to be sitting around three days for 12 hours a day.”
Past seasons of GoT have featured cameos by artists such as Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol, Will Champion from Coldplay, Sigur Rós, and Mastodon. However, there’s no confirmation if Ed Sheeran will be singing or performing nor even if he’ll be recognizably himself when he appears on-screen.
