Guess you all went ape-shit for nothing.
An article published on 8Shit has caused an uproar among the masses, as it states that the world’s main messaging app, WhatsApp, will be adding a new feature that notifies you when a person screenshots your conversation, a tad bit similar to its competitor, Snapchat.
Jan Koum, WhatsApp’s CEO allegedly remarked, “The functioning is simple, just like the blue tick: You will have the option activated by default. If it’s checked, you’ll be notified if someone screenshots your conversation, and others will be notified if you screenshot theirs. If it’s unchecked, no one gets notified.”
However, turns out he never said any of this. As of now, there is no official statement from the WhatsApp CEO or even the WhatsApp blog, where they constantly update any major announcements for the public to view. There’s no point for the app to feature a screenshot notification as WhatsApp is, in its core, a messaging utility.
The messages, photos or videos that you send are instantly available on your contact’s side and won’t disappear till they delete it. That feature is purely for Snapchat to protect the privacy of images that disappears after a short while. Therefore, we hardly believe this is ever going to happen.
Clearly, 8Shit is a satire website. The name even sound like “ape-shit”. There is no doubt that it is a fake report since the website also carries stories titled “Supermarkets are taking off everything that may cause cancer” and “Florida man arrested for breaking into jail to hang out with friends”.
