Pretty sure most of you have heard of the manga series inspired live-action picture Ghost in the Shell, starring Scarlett Johansson who plays the controversial role as an Asian character, Major Motoko Kusanagi. (We know, she’s white.) Nevertheless, guess who will be starring alongside the Marvel agent? You’ll be surprised.
Yesterday, Malaysian born multi-award winning filmmaker/singer and songwriter, Pete Teo has confirmed that he will be involved in the sci-fi film directed by Rupert Sanders, where he was approached by the production team through his agent in Hong Kong and he was immediately cast for a role in the film after reading the script to the producers.
Unfortunately, Pete Teo couldn’t reveal too much information about his role due to the actor’s agreement with Paramount Pictures, except that he will be playing a character named Tony. He stated, “I can’t really said much about the film, the producers asked us to not to, and we respect their decisions. So we have to keep everything very low-key.”
However, he did disclose that he shared a lot of scenes with Scarlett Johansson and most of his time on the film is with the famous actress. “She’s very easy to work with, very professional, very good at what she does, always comes prepared, and very easy to get along with. A very nice person; I really like her,” Teo said when asked about his experience working with the Avengers actress.
Pete Teo mentioned that he is extremely lucky as he has always been a huge fan of the franchise, so getting to work on the film is a huge honour. “Working on the film is amazing, I mean it is like nothing I have ever experienced before, and I’ve been in this industry for a very long time,” he continued, “I’ve done European films before but never Hollywood, so this is my first Hollywood film, and it’s on a totally different scale!”
Well, congratulations to Pete Teo! Ghost in the Shell is set to be released in Malaysian and Singaporean cinemas on 30 March 2017, in which the film also stars Danish actor Pilou Asbæk, Japanese comedian Takeshi Kitano, French actress Juliette Binoche, American actor Michael Pitt, and more. Don’t miss out, you know you need to watch this film 🙂
