Can 2016 get any worse? We’ve just lost pop icon George Michael a couple days ago, and with only less than a week left to the year, Star Wars actress who played Princess Leia Organa, Carrie Fisher, has just passed on.
She was 60 and her daughter confirmed her death. Just yesterday, it was reported that Fisher had a cardiac arrest on a flight from London and her mother later tweeted that she was in stable condition. However, she later died at the hospital.
Family spokesperson Simon Halls released a statement on behalf of Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd:
“It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning.”
“She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly,” says Lourd, 24. “Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”
As the daughter of entertainers Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher, Carrie was raised in the world of film, theatre and television.
Her role in Star Wars happened in 1977, and just lately, she detailed her on-set affair with co-star Harrison Ford in her memoir The Princess Diarist. She was only 19 then.
In 2015, she returned for The Force Awakens as Leia again, and it brought her back into the spotlight.
You will be missed, rest in peace.
