First of all, we’d like to personally thank TGV Cinemas Sdn Bhd and IMAX Corporation for giving us the opportunity to be one of the first few people in the world to catch the exclusive screening of “Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol”. In digital IMAX 2D, no less!
The movie was (what we think) the best installment in the “Mission Impossible” franchise to date – what more when enhanced with the IMAX experience. We definitely went in without any expectations whatsoever and walked out of the cinema two hours later with only good things to say about it.
We couldn’t help wondering though – how is it humanly possible Tom Cruise to still look like and play the part of a “superhero IMF agent” so well at his age? As Ethan Hunt, he was still fearless and “let’s jump off the 160 something floor off the Burj Khalifa”, and convincingly heroic at the age of 49!
We can’t say the same about the main villain (played by Michael Nyqvist, who wasn’t at all threatening), but Tom Cruise’s character alone was sufficient to make the entire movie come alive. Yes, singlehandedly.
And we have to give it up to director Brad Bird for insisting that the film was to be shot in IMAX (approximately 30 minutes of the film’s runtime was shot with IMAX cameras). Because even without need for 3D glasses, the film possessed brighter and higher quality image. Super eye candy for the film fanatics!
In a nutshell, “Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol” didn’t disappoint. Minimal explosions, one sandstorm, and some high-tech action (blue is glue, red is dead), not forgetting the elements of wit and humour that were injected sporadically. Definitely a “must catch” movie for the year end – and please do so in an IMAX theatre. You won’t regret it.
“Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol” will be released on the 15th of December 2011. Oh. And don’t forget to count the number of gorgeous BMWs in the movie.
