Christmas 2011: It’s a wrap!

It’s always nice to receive presents – even better if they’re wrapped up real pretty and nice. Gift wrapping doesn’t necessarily have to be time consuming; just creative and maybe a little bit interesting. And just because it’s the festive season, we’ve sourced a few interesting gift wrapping ideas for you! You could use just one, or if you’re a hard worker, use them all.

Edible tags

Why spend extra cash on gift tags if you can make ‘em edible? Here’s a trick! Include a cookie in your gift tag for an unexpected treat. You might want to use a gingerbread man cookie because they’re way more hardy. In the baking process, poke a hole through the cookie. When it has cooled, pipe the recipient’s name with frosting on the cookie and loop a ribbon through the hole. Then, insert the cookie into a tiny transparent plastic envelope and tie it to the present. Done!

Tissue-wrapped wine

With this alternative, there’s no need for wine bags. Plus, it’s a lot easier and it looks a lot more presentable. All you have to do is fold two layers of tissue wrapping paper or mesh-like wrapping paper in half. Wrap the bottle and tape it so that it doesn’t come loose. Cinch the tissue wrapping paper at the neck with a ribbon (and add a gingerbread man cookie tag, if you wish).

“Stick me happy”

On the contrary, stickers aren’t just for kids. If the standard department stores’ choices of wrapping paper designs aren’t exactly appearing, then jazz it up with lots of happy stickers! You could opt for a solid colour wrapping paper (which is extremely versatile and economical because places like IKEA sell them in thick rolls) and spruce it up with stickers. Pick anything from stars to polka dots, and even alphabets to spell out the name of the recipient.

Themed wraps

This one, you might want to keep it just within the family. Assigned each family member a different coloured wrapping paper! This is a fun and cost effective way for everyone to identify his or her presents. And you won’t even need gift tags.

Ribbon up!

One ribbon might seem plain and very “been there, done that”. Plus, if you happen to have an entire roll of ribbon from the haberdashery, then use it to its full decorative potential instead of leaving it to lie around for an entire year until the next festive season. So, loop the ribbon a few times around the gift and tie multiple bows. Ta-dah! Instant sweetness.
