TGV take cinematic experiences to greater heights

Just yesterday, TGV Cinemas (TGV Cinemas Sdn Bhd), Malaysia’s leading exhibitor and multiplex cinema chain operator and IMAX Corporation, the world’s leading entertainment technology company, specializing in immersive motion picture technologies, announced the installation of Malaysia’s first Digital IMAX theatre at TGV Sunway Pyramid.

It’s safe to say that not only did they set the bar for cinematic experiences, they also totally changed the way it looked and felt! The IMAX theatre is slated to open today (14th of December 2011) with one of its very first few screenings, the much anticipated blockbuster, “Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol”.

With a seating capacity of 292, the IMAX theatre is a result of the merger of two cinemas (in which TGV was said to have to sacrifice 252 seats) in efforts to offer movie goers much wider legroom and undoubtedly much more comfortable seats.

The redesign and refitting was also in tune with TGV’s new concept to provide sheer comfort and better audio and visual quality.

What is the “IMAX Experience”, you ask? The “IMAX Experience” combines crystal-clear images, powerful digital sound and customized theatre geometry to create a uniquely immersive movie experience. We’re talking about a custom-designed theatre, a larger and slightly curved specially treated IMAX screen, and two digital projectors with IMAX proprietary image enhancer.

This is, of course, coupled with a powerful laser-aligned sound system which features proprietary loudpseaker technology and uncompressed digital sound.

Phew! That was a lot of tech to be boasting about!

To be perfectly honest, having experienced it firsthand, watching movies at regular cinemas will never be the same again. But don’t just take our word for it. You really should experience this unparalleled experience yourself. Perhaps this weekend or over a “Christmas to New Year’s” break? Heck, grab a couple of your friends and make it a group outing!

Tickets to IMAX 2D format movie screenings are priced at RM22 to RM25 whereas tickets to IMAX 3D format movie screenings are priced at RM26 to RM29.
