A pedestrian bridge connecting KL Eco City’s project to Mid Valley City Megamall has collapsed earlier this afternoon. Initial reports indicates that several people, believed to be construction workers, were injured in the accident.
A few images from eyewitnesses displayed the accident site where the bridge is seen to have crashed down onto an access road that is fortunately still unopened to the public.
Earlier in May, developer SP Setia Berhad awarded five contractors of its KL Eco City development for their contributions and commitments in achieving a record of 14 million safe man-hours throughout construction.
The 3.30 pm incident saw nine construction workers injured including one fatality. The spokesman said those injured were four Vietnamese, four Bangladeshis and a Sabahan. Several other workers are feared to still be trapped underneath the collapsed structure. “We have yet to ascertain the number of people trapped under the collapsed bridge.” said the spokesman.
Updates will ensue as we get more reports from the incident.
