Ride the waves this November with Food Hero 2015’s winner, Ili Sulaiman, as she sets on a voyage to six coastal cities in Asia, catching sea creatures and fishing out mouth-watering seafood dishes, amidst mesmerising sea side locations. Take on a journey with Ili to coastal cities in Asia, watch as she meets folks from different walks of lives and whips up gastronomical goodness inspired by the local cooking methods and seafood.
Ili Sulaiman is a bubbly character with a big heart and a big smile. Food occupies a very special place in her heart, having been drawn to all things culinary from a very young age. She now strives to make lives better through food – whether by cooking for others or by teaching others how to make tasty dishes.
Ili founded Dish by Ili, a food delivery service that provides wholesome, nutritious dishes made from scratch and delivered in old school tiffin carriers to your doorstep – a nostalgic reminder of comfort food. In 2015, she was selected as one of the 2 Food Hero winners in 2015 and has since hosted a series of show shorts on Asian Food Channel titled Family Feast with Ili and Asian Food Channel‘s web series, Home Cooked Malaysia.
By The Sea with Ili is Ili’s first original series and premieres tonight (10 November) at 10 pm on the Asian Food Channel. This series sees her travelling to coastal cities around the region, including Da Nang, Phuket and Terengganu, on multiple quests in tasting and recreating seafood dishes at beautiful locations with her own touch.
“Not only do I get the chance to unearth stories behind all the flavorsome dishes from each city, I also get to taste it! The most rewarding part of this production was experiencing the warmth and sincerity extended by the local fishermen, street vendors to the chefs that I had the privilege to meet. I hope viewers get to experience that through the show and enjoy it as much as I had in hosting it.” said Ili.
Though seafood is widely consumed, Asia alone is home to more than 100 types of unique seafood. Even within Asia, preparations and cooking styled vary widely to suit the local preferences and taste palettes.
