Malaysian fashionista and actress Nora Danish reckons that artistes should be allowed tax exemptions for all the money they spend on maintaining their looks to appear attractive.
The model-turned-entrepreneur who owns clothing label Owl by ND urges the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) to consider her proposal.
“For me as Malaysians, it is our responsibility [to pay taxes]. But what I hope is for a little exemption for celebrities like us,” she was quoted saying.
“It is just that, in the current times we are paying a lot for our appearances. So, this is part of our career and perhaps it can be counted as our occupational cost.” She’s insisted that her taxes are in order as she consistently pays her taxes.
Her remark follows after another celebrity Rozita Che Wan was barred from leaving Malaysia to celebrate her daughter’s birthday in London, due to tax payment deficit.
Last week, the IRB confirmed that 132,501 Malaysians have been barred from leaving the country as of September due to the failure to pay taxes. This amount has risen by over 50% since 2015.
