Apple finally releases a long-awaited set of meme inspired emojis! Approved by the Unicode Consortium in June 2016, the iOS 10.2 update features a wide array of new emoji, including The Shrug, Selfie and Facepalm.
There are so many popular additions in this set that there is likely to be something for everyone. The emojis were released in a developer’s version of iOS 10.2, so it’s unclear whether all 72 (yeap, that’s a lot) will make the final cut whenever the update is rolled out to everyone.
👏 Expect two major iOS emoji updates in 2016 😮
🗓 iOS 10.0: Gendered Roles + Redesign
🗓 iOS 10.1: Professions + Unicode 9— Emojipedia (@Emojipedia) August 26, 2016
Emojipedia tweeted about the update, noting that we should expect two major upgrades–Gendered Roles & Professions.
Meanwhile, existing emojis have also been redrawn with more detail, and/or different styles:
Dang. The ancient Apple emoji — which were never really meant to be seen bigger than 32 × 32 — are redrawn quite well in iOS 10.2! Good job! pic.twitter.com/X6WskExq1D
