Photos of an Indian girl dressed in school uniform who has been chained to a pole at an apartment vicinity has gone viral on social media.
It can clearly be seen that the girl’s right leg is chained to a pole. Her school bag and water bottle is left on the ground beside her.
The incident seems to have occurred in the parking lot of Lagoon Perdana in Bandar Sunway and netizens were quick to condemn the act of the parent or guardian for resorting to such measures, presumably to punish the child.
Following a police report filed, the 30-year-old mother of the child was briefly questioned and released. When police arrived, a group of people were gathered around the girl. The mother also admitted to chaining her daughter.
According to police, the 8-year-old girl was chained as a punishment because she refused to attend her Mandarin class.
The case is now being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for neglect and exposure of a child to physical injury.
