Apart from K-pop and K-drama, one of Korea’s largest exports has got to be its beauty products that are in overabundance and unlike many trends, the adoration towards K-beauty sure isn’t short-lived. Although many e-commerce platforms and chain stores in Malaysia are already leveraging this market by ramping up their K-beauty offerings in the recent years, the industry continues to thrive and innovations are bountiful.
We’re familiar with the household names of K-beauty, but occasionally, discovering new brands that we end up loving is surprisingly enriching. One of these brands is Gobdigoun – a Korean skincare label that’s been established in Myeong-dong, Seoul, South Korea since 2010. Although the majority of the brand specifics are written in Korean, we substantiated that the brand has recently penetrated other Asian markets, such as in China, Taiwan, Japan and now, Malaysia.
With that, we took the liberty to put to the test some of Gobdigoun’s best-selling products that have received rave reviews online. Named Il Porco, the brand’s popular gelatin-based hydrogel eye pads are supposed to boost elasticity, promote brightness, enhance blood circulation and effectively hydrate the undereye area. There are four variants available and those we received include the Black Pearl and Gold EGF eye pads.
The liquid essence enveloping the eye pads is formulated with 14 botanical extracts comprising citron, ginseng, aloe vera and more. What’s special about these eye pads is that its unique gelatin patch reacts to the facial temperature to activate the penetration and efficacy of the nourishing botanical ingredients on the skin. We found these eye pads convenient and fuss free to use as there are no messy drips, and they really work to revitalise the undereye area.
Single-use sheet masks are imperative in a Korean skincare regime and Gobdigoun’s Water Balloon Aqua Mask promises 48 hours of intense hydration and skin plumpness, while rejuvenating the skin and reducing the appearance of enlarged pores. The sheet mask, that is enrished with arnica flower extract, witch hazel flower water, sodium hyaluronate and portulaca olearcea extract, is made of tencel fibre and this helps deliver the potency of the ingredients to the deeper layers of skin.
Known for its high level of amino-acid and peptide content, each Placenta Power sheet mask by Gobdigoun contains 1800mg of superior sheep placental extract. Together, the placental protein and bio-cellulose reduces fine lines and wrinkles, improves the skin’s overall brightness and hydration, as well as promote a youthful appearance. The use of animal placenta in skincare has long been a topic of controversy, but its efficiency in slowing down signs of ageing is indisputable.
