Divorces are nasty. But in Hollywood, they get nastier..
Mary J. Blige filed for divorce from estranged husband and former manager, Martin “Kendu” Isaacs, in July due to “irreconcilable differences” after 12 years of marriage. When the divorce was filed, Mary J had also asked the judge to block Martin’s ability to get spousal support. However, that wasn’t enough to stop Martin from going after Mary J’s money.
During the divorce proceedings recently, Martin was reported to be demanding a whopping $129,319 in temporary spousal support PER MONTH from Mary J. His argument as to why he thinks he deserves such an amount is simple – Mary’s been the breadwinner during the 12 years that they were married and she’s gotten him used to the extravagant lifestyle. And that’s not all, he also wants help from his estranged wife to pay his legal fees that are piling up due to their impending divorce.
According to Martin, Mary J. has earned $1.5 to $5.1 million in the last two years. With an album coming out and the tour she’s currently on, her fortune is predicted to increase.
As Martin was fired as Mary J’s manager shortly after she filed for divorce, he claims to be in financial turmoil, which is why he believes Mary J should pony up spousal support payments that he “needs”, of which expenses include rent for several properties, his child support payments, payments for his personal trainer and chef as well as money for groceries.
