Brows have become the beauty obsession of the decade and today’s definition of ideal eyebrows seems to be a thick set of arches, unscathed by tweezers, similar to those of brow highness Cara Delevingne. Brows have also got a corresponding prevalence on popular culture, with millions of eyebrow tutorials on YouTube and Instagram posts with the hashtags #brows and #browsonfleek, which was first made viral by Peaches Monroee.
I’ve been blessed in the eyebrow department, and leaving my brows the hell alone while growing up has definitely done me a tremendous favour. The best way I can describe my natural brows is the hairs grow thick and at lightning speed, requiring the need for constant grooming with tweezers, a brow razor and tiny scissors, just to get rid of stray hairs that grow across the brow bone and sometimes, on my eyelids. Yeap, the #hairygirlproblem is real.
Despite having somewhat enviable eyebrows my friends often point out, I was never fully satisfied with my arches. For starters, the hairs were sparse in certain areas and I’d always have to fill them in. My eyebrow tails were also nonexistent, and due to the rapid growth of the hairs, my eyebrows were never even; one was always higher, or the brow arches wouldn’t sit at the same spot. I know eyebrows are meant to be sisters and not twins, but you get my pain.
About two months ago, I got a semi permanent brow enhancement done at Browhaus. Called the Brow Resurrection, a unique technique developed and perfected by Browhaus is used to create natural-looking, realistic 3D brow strokes to achieve browperfection. The result is finer, more defined and lifelike brows that last up to two years and look more natural compared to other semi permanent brow enhancements.
So, what goes into the process? After an assessment by my therapist, she drew on my ideal brows with an eyebrow pencil with a shape and thickness that complements my natural brows. Once I was satisfied with the brow design, she applied a numbing cream on the brows and left it on for about 15 minutes before wiping the excess off, and proceeding with the actual enhancement.
I settled for the Dark Brown coloured safe-for-all-skin-types vegetable dye, and with a patented Browhaus tool which consists of tiny needles that resemble a blade, she drew on hair-like strokes on the eyebrow to mimic real brow hair. Surprisingly, it barely hurt and to further eliminate the scary thought of having needles scratching across my skin, she even provided me with a pair of earphones so I could keep myself entertained.
After she sealed the pigment in and the process was completed, I was given an After-Care Kit which comprised of Build; a serum to repair and regenerate new skin cells, Fix; an anti-scarring and nourishing balm, a DIY mask bowl and aftercare guide. Taking care of my new brows was easy, although I wasn’t allowed to swim, sweat profusely, get facials, or apply skincare or makeup on the brows for two weeks.
There was no redness whatsoever, so people didn’t notice I had something done until I told them. Peeling and scabbing is also a natural part of the healing process and my downtime went by quickly. Within three days, my brows started to itch and began to scab. I found it hard not to pick or scratch at the area, but applying Build and Fix twice a day really accelerated the process. After about eight to 10 days, my brows were fully healed.
My brows looked very natural, but going for a touch up within one month after the first session was imperative for me as I found some of the pigment gradually faded off as days went by. I already knew what I was in for, so my touch up session went by swiftly and the sound no longer phased me, so I had it done sans the earphones. The downtime for the brows to heal was similar to the first time round, except this time the pigment stayed on.
My Brow Resurrection journey has been a pain-free and comfortable process and I’d highly recommend the service at Browhaus. Yes, it is pricey compared to traditional brow embroidery or other semi permanent brow enhancements elsewhere, but for the quality of the service, assurance of hygiene, meticulousness of the highly trained therapists, and the final result, it’s definitely worth every Ringgit.
I save so much time doing my eyebrows now and even when I forget to set them with brow gel, my arches still look dope. Brow Resurrection at Browhaus costs RM2358.49 (Define) or RM3962.26 (Natural), whereas a touch up, recommended to be completed within six months, is priced at RM306.60.
