Charmian Carr, the actress from The Sound of Music has died of complications from a rare form of dementia in Los Angeles on 17 September 2016.
Well-known for performing “Sixteen Going On Seventeen”, the American actress joined the film musical at age 21 and famously played Liesl, the eldest Von Trapp daughter.
Years after starring in The Sound of Music, Carr started her own interior design business, Charmian Carr Design. Her most famous client was the late Michael Jackson, whom she “shared a special friendship with,” according to an obituary on her website.
In 2000, the actress released her first book, Forever Liesl, in which she detailed her time making The Sound of Music. A year later, she released a second book, Letters to Liesl, which she started working on after fans praised her first memoir.
Her only other major Hollywood role was starring with Anthony Perkins in the Stephen Sondheim television musical Evening Primrose where she played a mysterious young woman who lived in a department store.
Although she did not star in a whole lot of movies, her role in the film musical The Sound Of Music has been truly significant and her presence will surely be missed.
May your soul rest in peace, Liesl!
