“And the nominees are..”
While you’re busy preparing for the Christmas celebrations ahead, the people in charge of music’s biggest night have also been kept busy – but not for the festive season.
The Recording Academy®, best known for honoring achievements in the recording arts and supporting the music community and the masterminds behind the GRAMMY Awards® just announced the nominations for the 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards® today!
Slated to take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles come 12th February 2012, the announcement has undoubtedly started the clock counting down to the gala event.
So, we hear that Kanye West has gotten the lion’s share of the categories’ nominations including racing against Adele for “Song of the Year” with his all-star song, “All of the Lights”. Despite all the bad press about his behavior, he’s leading the pack of 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards® nominees with a whopping total of seven nominations!
Adele, on the other hand, is tied with Bruno Mars and the Foo Fighters with six nominations each. Although still recovering after undergoing a vocal cord microsurgery, she might just be in line to bag the “Album of the Year” award.
The most surprising newcomers, however, are electronic dance music (EDM) maestros Sonny Moore a.k.a Skrillex and Joel Zimmerman a.k.a deadmau5!
Skrillex, known for being the past year’s biggest dubstep star has not one, not two, but five big nominations to add into his résumé. He could stand a chance to win both the “Best New Artist” and “Best Dance Recording” awards – if he beats his boss deadmau5 to it.
Yes, deadmau5 is one of the six contenders for “Best Dance Recording” with his winning track, “Raise Your Weapon”.
The 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards® nominations were announced after the Recording Academy’s fourth annual live concert special, which aired on CBS from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. The hour-long event featured some of the awards’ key nominees like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and Nicki Minaj.
