Established by the founders of UoVo, Farm To Plate sits along the increasingly popular street at Damansara Kim and prides itself as a rustic eatery and bar spurred by a contract farming business.
As its namesake suggests, the concept behind this family-style restaurant is worth highlighting – Farm To Plate cuts out the middlemen, sourcing ingredients and food direct from the farms to its kitchen, and unto your plates. This eliminates the need for lengthy logistics and prolonged refrigeration for fresher, better quality produce.
Farm To Plate’s specialty is its Iberico Ribs of the 100% Bellota grade, which simply means pure breed Ibericos that feed on acorns, herbs and grass. The simple salads are also a big hit with patrons for being exceptionally fresh and crisp. Other offerings include pastas, pizzas, a selection of beers, coffee and tea, as well as a mix of outsourced and homemade desserts.
Shoyu & Sake Ribs (Bite & Chew) (RM79) – The Iberico Ribs at Farm to Plate are served two ways; Slow Cooked or Bite & Chew. For the latter, the ribs are cooked on high heat and grilled quickly. The result is succulent meat with a gratifying bite.
The ribs are served without any heavy sauces, yet the flavours of the light savoury, sweet marinade and slightly pink-centred meat are absolutely topnotch. Many rich and hearty foods can become repulsive after one too many helpings (jelak), but we kept going on and on devouring these robust and well-balanced ribs.
Patrons can also order Heineken, Tiger, Hoegarden and Kirin beers that’d be a great accompaniment to the ribs.
Farm To Plate Salad (RM15) – The owner, Mark, really wasn’t kidding when he said the salads are extremely fresh. Although it’s merely a simple combination of lettuce, cucumber, tomato, garlic, and boiled egg with a light dash of mayonnaise, vinaigrette and mustard, we quite enjoyed these refreshing greens.
Conchiglie With Tomato Cream (RM28) – We prefer cream-based sauces over tomato-based sauces, but were pleasantly surprised with Farm To Plate’s version of a tomato-based sauce for its creaminess and vibrancy of flavours. It certainly isn’t plain ol’ tomato pasta sauce.
Fettuccine With Creamy Mushroom (RM29) – Cooked with button mushrooms, onions, garlic, cream and parsley, every bite of this fettuccine with the amalgamation of flavours from the garlicky, cheesy cream sauce was divine. It’s definitely a winner in our books and a must try.
Ham and Caramelised Onions (RM32) – Made with fresh pizza dough, the flavours from this pizza mingle very well in the mouth, offering a harmony of saltiness from the ham and sweetness from the caramelised onions. If you like fully loaded pizzas, this one can be quite underwhelming though.
The desserts we’ve tried were mediocre, however Farm To Plate is still very much experimenting with its sweet treats before finalising everything. Great coffee by the barista, Adrian, is also served at any time of the day.
For the first two months in as an establishment, we must say that we admittedly underestimated Farm To Plate. What we’ve tried thus far was pretty impressive, and we’d definitely go back to sample more items. Furthermore, parking around the area is free and relatively easy to find. Even if not for a full meal, it’s a cosy place just to chill out over a cuppa.
