Scottish synthpop band Chvrches has spoken, and they’ve chosen Kota Kinabalu’s electronica artist, Rozella – one of the three Tiger Jams finalists – for a special Tiger Jams collaboration. Props for being the lucky ones, Rozella!
Chvrches and Rozella will be working together on a track titled “Home To You” which depicts the contrast of “being in the big city with bright lights and missing the serenity of home and island life. It was written by Rozella in guidance of electropop prince Darren Ashley.
Rozella, who got selected over Son of a Policeman and Donamarie, recounts that her conversation with Chvrches via a video chat session was surreal, and that they shared industry insights with her, for instance how “people will always have an opinion” and it’s important for her to trust her gut feel to do what is right by her.
Chvrches told Rozella that they “loved the simplicity of the track”, which allows them experimental space to fuse their sounds and incorporate voice chopping. Without a doubt, Chvrches’ expertise and experience will benefit Rozella along her journey of being groomed toward being a more established artist.
Electro-pop trio Chvrches – comprising Iain Cook, Martin Doherty and Lauren Mayberry – released their debut studio album The Bones of What you Believe in 2013, which earned them widespread critical acclaim. Their second album Every Open Eye was out in 2015 and this year, they wrote the original track for the action-adventure platform video game Mirror’s Edge Catalyst.
Along with the Top 3 contestants from Tiger Jams Rozella, Son of a Policeman and Donamarie, Chvrches highlights Tiger Jams Centerstage, which takes place on September 2nd 2016 at Rhapsody Square, TREC. Asian acts The Sam Willows (Singapore), ToNick (Hong Kong), and homegrown Darren Ashley will also be performing.
On top of that, the venue, Rhapsody Square, will showcase art pieces by Tiger Jams local visual artists, Donald Abraham, Kenji Chai and Flex, who were also instrumental in the creative production of each of the three finalists’ music videos done for their Tiger Jams original track.
