Set in Los Angeles, director Damien Chazelle’s La La Land highlights ambition, but the film takes on the route of a romantic musical.
It follows aspiring actress Mia (Emma Stone) who hopes to make it big one day while serving coffee to movie stars. She then meets jazz pianist Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) who plays at dingy bars to scrape by and have his talent be heard. They fall in love, only to have their ambitions threaten to tear them apart.
La La Land will be the third film starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling on screen together, after rom com Crazy, Stupid, Love and crime thriller Gangster Squad. La La Land is set to be released in December 2016.
