If you were outdoors today, you probably noticed a familiar sight and smell, followed by an “Oh no!”. Yes, the haze is back.
Although Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said Sarawak is most likely to feel it at the moment, the Klang Valley has also joined the list. This is because of the fires in Indonesia, and the changing winds which will bring the haze towards Malaysia.
“There is a possibility of it hitting this week if no action is taken by Indonesia to put out the fires and if the winds continue to blow towards Sarawak.” he said.
Seven hotspots were detected by the Meteorological Monitoring Centre in Singapore, 40 in Kalimantan and three in Sabah, and a few in Western Sumatra.
“We are monitoring the situation but the fires were also detected in Sarawak,” he added.
The hotspots are attributed to the prevailing dry weather in western and central Indonesia, and could continue for the next few months.
