Recently on Monday, Ridley posted a photo urging followers to support an end to gun violence, saying:
“Thinking about how lucky I am like……… Serious bit: as I sat in the audience yesterday tears were streaming down my face at the tribute to those that have been lost to gun violence. I didn’t get a great picture of the incredible group that came on stage but they were so brave. It was a true moment of togetherness. We must #stoptheviolence”
As of today, the actress has deleted her account @daisyridley after she was bullied off the platform. The post was still visible through her Facebook page (it’s now been deleted), and the comments section indicates a divide between those supporting the actress and trolls directing hate toward her. People also criticised her for using guns in films, calling her a “hypocrite.”
Her co-star replied to commenters asking about Ridley on his account, saying it’s Ridley’s decision to “do what’s best for her.”
Cyberbullying on Instagram is ever-increasing, and the app is soon making changes to allow public figures and celebrities to protect themselves from unwanted abuse by allowing them to delete comments, report spam and abusive content to moderators.
