This is Graham. As peculiar or bizarre as he may look, Graham might be the perfect specimen in another world where humans are able to evolve as fast as automobiles have.
A trauma surgeon, a crash expert, and an artist team from Melbourne teamed up to design a car-crash-proof human for Australia’s Transport Accident Commission. Graham is part of its latest Toward Zero road-safety campaign. David Logan, a team member, mentioned: “Our bodies are just not equipped to handle the forces in common crash scenarios.”
To deal with these forces, Graham was created with a much larger skull to absorb fracture upon impact, a concave and fatty face to avoid damage, no neck to reduce all potential for spine and back injuries, thicker skin to prevent lacerations and external air sacks on the ribs for maximum protection.
Graham wasn’t just designed to survive a crash from the inside of a car. His legs were constructed in an event of pedestrian collisions too, with an extra joint at the lower ankle for increased mobility, and flexible knees.
